I don’t know about you, but I get frustrated when I hear wellness professionals tell people “sleep is important” and “you need to go to bed earlier”. I’m pretty sure that someone telling you to get an early night isn’t the magical solution to having more energy. And if you have young children, you work shifts, or have any other unavoidable interruptions to your sleep, then advice to 'prioritise your sleep more' is downright annoying! But fortunately, sleep is only one part of feeling rested. There are plenty of practical steps you can take to address your rest as a whole. 💤 What rest really is and why it mattersRest isn't just about catching a few Zzzs at night; in fact, rest is about…
When you look at how you are resting your mind and body as a whole, it's clear that it is more than just getting a good night's sleep. (Side note: If you want to improve your energy, there are a few more factors to take into account, such as nutrition, hormones, stress levels and so on. In this email, I'm focusing in on rest, which is a key component to your energy levels.) Rest involves multiple actions over the course of your week that help your body and mind to heal, repair, and rejuvenate. I believe that learning how to rest well is a skill. And in a world full of computer screens fighting for our attention, knowing how to switch off, wind down, and sleep well is not instinctive or intuitive. In fact, tech like social media apps is designed to lull you into a state of absorption (ever heard of doom-scrolling?) and so your body FEELS like it is resting and winding down. But, you’re actually not in a resting state, and you aren’t completing your stress cycle. (BTW - Want to learn what it means to complete your stress cycle? You can watch my free training here) Rest is simple, but not always easyI recently discovered a quote that I shared on my social media and that I think is so accurate when it comes to rest: “Work needs rest and rest takes work.”- Vincent Deary In other words, if you want to break the cycle of getting burnt out and instead start to succeed in your career, you need to support your wellbeing with regular rest on an ongoing, sustainable basis. And in order to do that, you need to put in some work to restructure your time and consciously address the factors that prevent you from resting well during your week. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to share with you more specific tips and advice on how you can improve your rest, so stay tuned. Until then, I invite you to find some time to unwind and recharge. Your body and your mind will thank you for it. To peaceful nights and well-rested days... With love, P.S. Hey Reader It's rare that I write a newsletter that is only going to be helpful for half of you... But in this case, I think there will be enough of you that can relate, that you need to hear what I am saying. Ask yourself: Is your fitness routine leaving you feeling exhausted rather than energized? You might be tired and wired. For many people experiencing burnout, it feels impossible to find time to exercise. But for others, exercise becomes addictive. That feeling you get when you complete...
Hey Reader Ever feel like your screens have become a digital leash, tethering you to a restless world? I certainly have a love-hate relationship with the digital world, and with my break from content creation the past few weeks have been an ideal time for me to re-establish some boundaries with my devices. Personally? I'm ok with non-addictive screen time. I never feel addicted to sending emails, to getting my work done on my computer, etc. But when it comes to social media, I need better...
Hey Reader You might have noticed that it has been a couple of weeks since I last wrote a newsletter. A LOT has happened my side and I decided to take a short break from digital content creation. I could feel myself getting burnt out. Something had to give... I teach my clients to recognise the signs of burn out and how to prioritise their time, and so I felt it was time to truly practice what I preach. Creating content is a way that I connect and build community, but I will always prioritise...
